Distance Learning 2021
To Our Franklin Parents and Families,
Franklin City Schools continues to commit itself to providing high quality educational opportunities for students while maintaining the health and safety of students, staff, and the wider community.
- With these goals in mind, the district has decided to shift to distance learning for K-12 students on Monday, January 4, 2021 to Friday, January 8, 2021.
- Students and staff members who are symptom free will return to in-person instruction on Monday, January 11, 2021.
The district has made this decision after weighing the recent state and local health trendlines associated with the COVID-19 Pandemic and the high likelihood of increased transmission as a result of the upcoming holiday season. The district continues to commit itself to in-person instruction and believes that by taking this proactive step future disruptions and schedule changes will be minimized. These additional distance learning days following Winter Break will reduce the risk of exposure within our schools and reduce the need for students and staff to quarantine.
Additional information regarding distance-learning instructional schedules, and assignment expectations for the week of January 4th to January 8th will be forthcoming from your child’s building principal and classroom teachers. All students are expected to participate in scheduled online instruction with teachers and complete provided assignments.
Distance Learning Schedule: January 4, 2021 to January 8, 2021
Grades 7-12:
-
All students will follow their building’s distance learning schedule, which will include live and recorded virtual/online instruction from classroom teachers;
-

Grades K-6:

Paper copies of instructional resources and assignments will be sent home on December 22, 2020; Completion of these assignments is the required expectation for all students. Participation in the virtual instructional sessions with teachers is optional, but will provide additional support for students.
-

-
Families without internet access or consistent child care will have the opportunity to send their children to school during the hours of 8:30am-1:30pm each day for Grades 1-6 and 9:30am-2:30pm for Kindergarten. This will provide the opportunity for district staff to assist students with their online lessons and assignments. School transportation will run routes for these students.

Families opting to send their children to school during these days MUST indicate this choice on the district’s online survey: https://tinyurl.com/FCSRemoteSurvey

Franklin City Schools wishes you and your family a safe and healthy holiday season and looks forward to the return to full in-person instruction on January 11th. We also encourage you to be safe and to take measures to protect you and your family members by practicing social distancing, wearing masks, and maintaining good hygiene practices. Our district’s ability to provide consistent in-person instruction is dependent upon the wider community’s precautionary efforts.
We thank you for everything you do to keep our community safe and to help assure our students receive the best possible education. While we can never eliminate all the risks associated with COVID-19, we can greatly reduce it by working together.
Happy Holidays,
Michael D. Sander
Superintendent
