Calamity Day May 24 Press Release

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 15, 2024

May 24 designated as a calamity day for students in grades K-8

Franklin City Schools announced today that Friday, May 24, 2024, will be a calamity day for students in grades K-8. The last day for all elementary and junior high students will be Thursday, May 23, 2024.

All elementary and junior high school teachers will report to their buildings as usual on Friday, May 24, 2024. High school students will attend school as usual on Friday, May 24, to take final exams.

The extra day will give teachers time to pack as most elementary and all junior high school staff will move to a new building due to the elementary realignment.

“Utilizing this calamity day will allow our dedicated teachers and staff members to adequately prepare for the upcoming move to their new buildings. We believe this one-time allocation of time for preparation is essential to assist in a smooth transition,” said Dr. Mike Sander, superintendent of schools.

We will continue to provide further updates and information regarding the transition as they become available. Your feedback and support have been invaluable, and we appreciate your partnership as we embark on this exciting new chapter for the district.

Please contact your child’s building principal if you have any questions.
