Board honors students for achievement:

At its Jan. 22 board meeting, the Franklin Board of Education honored Girl Scout Troop 32549 for their work in constructing buddy benches for the district's elementary playgrounds. A buddy bench is a special place on a school playground where a child can go when they want someone to play or talk with. Troop members include Patience Moss, Brienne Dodds, Caty O'Hara, Brooke Wallace, Tamiyah Clark, Kylie Day, Ava Kirk, Elizabeth Kramer, Isabelle Black, Jenna Maxey, Laila Powell, Alexis Singleton, Neveah Wesley, and Liza O'Hara. Kelly Kramer is the troop's leader. Franklin established the Student Achievement Award in January 2001 to honor students who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in academics, community service, or character. Hundreds of students have been honored since the award's inception.
