Start with Hello
Jocelyn Bialk, the social worker assisting with meeting student needs at FHS, has started the Start With Hello this week at FHS. The rational is this is a time when many people are coming back together or new people are coming into the school. This is also the time of year when social patterns start including group formation while others are feeling left out or isolated. The goal is to break through these social barriers early in the year so students will be more comfortable and have an inclusive school community.
Lunch was chosen as the time for the interactive activities due to this being a time when many report feeling left out the most. Students from a student leadership organization helped to implement the program and serve as ambassadors of the program. We think the students were first taken aback as they had never done anything like this, however, it was really neat to watch them engage and laugh as they discussed conversation starters and got to know each other better. (Candy helped too.)
Great job, Mrs. Bialk. Also, thank you to the FHS Link Crew for their help with this program. Pictures of students participating in this worthwhile activity are included below.
