IMPORTANT Transportation Message from Dr. Sander

Jan 18, 2022
at 12:00 am
Good afternoon,
Please carefully review the important information related to transportation from Dr. Sander outlined below.  A specific message about reporting absences for FHS students is included after Dr. Sander's message.

Dear Wildcat Families,

We know these past two years have brought unexpected challenges and inconveniences for all of us. We appreciate your patience and partnership as we work hard to keep our students safe AND in classrooms. Face-to-face learning is a top priority for our Board, administrators, and staff.

Transporting students has been a struggle this year, as we (as are nearly all Ohio districts) are dealing with a severe shortage of bus drivers. When too many drivers are ill (regular and substitute), we have an excessive number of uncovered routes and are unable to transport all students. That is where we are now.

Due to increased numbers of drivers being ill and routes being uncovered, Franklin City Schools will be implementing an alternate transportation schedule for the remainder of the week. During this time, the following bus routes will not run:

Bus Number

Days

1, 7, and 12

Wednesday, January 19, 2022

6, 13, and 15

Thursday, January 20, 2022

18, 25, and 32

Friday, January 21, 2022

On the days when your child’s bus is not available, we are asking you to provide alternate transportation for your student(s). If you are unable to provide transportation and your child misses school, they will have the opportunity to complete their assignments. Once they complete their assignments, they will be counted present for that day. Assignments are available electronically for students to access. Please check with your building’s teachers to find the appropriate location for those electronic assignments if you need assistance.

We recognize that this is an inconvenience for our students and families, but the only alternative is to close school. We know the best place for our students to be is with their teachers; we have exhausted all other options prior to implementing these transportation changes. If you have any questions or are unclear about your district transportation, please contact Transportation Director Tamara Centers at 937-743-8670.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael D. Sander

Superintendent

Specifically for FHS Students: If your child cannot attend due to lack of district provided transportation, please contact FHS no later than 8am at 937-743-8611 and specify your child's full name and bus number when leaving a message on the attendance line.

Sincerely,
Kelli L. Fromm
