Second Semester Exams

May 22, 2016
at 12:00 am

FHS Parents and Guardians,

Second Semester Exams will be held this Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, May 24th, 25th, and 26th

Semester exams are an important component of each student’s final semester grade, representing 20% of their grade.  It is expected that students will be in attendance for each of their exam periods and complete an examination for each course.  The only exceptions to this would be if students are exempting an exam and for very select AP/CCP courses.

Students should expect exams to be culminating in nature, covering the entire curriculum of the semester.  Students are given one hour and fifty minutes for each exam.  It is expected that students will attend and work on their exams during this entire time frame.  Students are not permitted to leave the examination period early.  Additionally, exams cannot be taken early, so attendance during these three days is critical for students’ academic success.  If a student must miss an exam, he or she will make up the exam during the first week of June at a time arranged by the Main/Guidance Office. Failure to take a required exam will result in a failing grade for the semester and disciplinary action.

Eligibility lists for exam exemptions have been posted for the past week to allow for student review.  The review period has now concluded and exemption forms for all eligible students have been distributed and returned by students in Advisory Period.  Over 250 underclassmen are eligible for at least one exemption.  Please know that while excellent attendance makes students eligible for exemptions, in order to actually exempt an exam a student must earn at least 80% in the course for the semester.  If a student exempts an exam, the exam grade is replaced by the student's fourth quarter grade.  Exemption forms require teacher and parental signatures.  We believe that if a student exempts an exam, the student's parent and/or guardian must not only be aware of this decision, but also agree with it.

During exam days, buses will run their normal schedules.  Students and parents must account for this if students are leaving early or coming late due to exemptions.  These situations may require the arranging of alternative transportation.

Students will not be required to attend an examination period if they have a study hall at that time.  However, just as with exemptions, students may not return to school once they have left.  Additionally, if a student does not already qualify for exemptions, but wishes to not attend school during their study hall exam period, they must complete and submit the parent permission form.  These require a parent signature and are due by Monday, May 23rd

Lunches will be run through advisory periods.  Administration has split advisory periods into three groups to facilitate this lunch schedule.

FHS will follow the schedule found below during the three exam days:
