Graduation Information for Seniors

Please follow along with Mrs. Limon's weekly updates, as well as the Senior Survival Guide, for important dates, events, deadlines, etc.

College Information for Seniors

Students will be using SchooLinks (accessible via ClassLink) for all the following tasks:

  • Accessing their unofficial transcript for reference when applying to college, scholarships, etc. 
  • Registering for in-school college visits
  • Filling out the brag sheet
  • Requests to teachers for letters of recommendation
  • Transcript requests for colleges
  • Documenting community service - 20 hours are required to walk at graduation
  • Documenting local diploma seals (Student Engagement seal and Fine & Performing Arts seal) 

 

The following documents to support seniors in the College Process were emailed to seniors on September 11, 2026, and were also sent out via ParentSquare. 

 

All transcripts and letters of recommendation will be sent via SchooLinks.  Do not add any teachers or counselors as recommenders on Common App! 

Before we can send your transcript to any college, you must:

1.     Complete the Brag Sheet (under TO-DOs on the SchooLinks' homepage)

2.    Link your Common App and SchooLinks (if you applied to college on Common App) and/or   

add direct application to college on Schoolinks

3.    Waive your FERPA on Common App (if you applied on Common App)

4.    Parent/guardian must sign/waive FERPA in 2 places: Registration Gateway (if this was completed at the beginning of the year, there is nothing else you need to do for this first part) AND login to SchooLinks and complete the FERPA Authorization

 

Please remember to give the counselors at least 2 weeks notice to fill out the counselor recommendation paperwork and send your transcripts. Submit by Oct. 15 for the Nov. 1 deadline.  It takes us this long to process all the information that we have to send on your behalf. Do not wait until the night before it is due to submit applications. It will not be sent in time if you wait until Oct 31.

 

    • Although we'd like seniors to schedule a college visit on a day FHS doesn't have school, seniors are allowed to miss school to attend 2 on-campus college visits.  Students should set up the visit with the college (usually on the college's admissions website), pick up a 'College Visit' form from the main office and turn the form in 1 week before the visit.  See the Student Handbook for more detailed guidance.
    • In-school visits take place at FHS during ROAR. College reps visit FHS and students are invited to attend the presentation and ask questions. Students should sign up for visits on SchooLinks then students will be called to the designated location (location dependent on number of students planning to attend).

    • Students should begin applying to college(s) beginning in August of his/her senior year. Students can apply via the Common App or Direct to the Institution (through the college's website). 
    • The counselors would like for any student interested in attending college after high school to please apply by Thanksgiving of his/her senior year.  Seniors should make sure he/she is paying attention to deadlines!! 
    • All applications should be completed at least 2 weeks prior to a deadline to give staff enough time to complete their tasks.  For example, for a November 1 deadline: students should have their applications in no later than October 15. 

    • Not all schools require a letter of recommendation (LOR) in order to apply. For those schools that do require a LOR, seniors should make sure they talk to his/her teacher before sending the teacher the electronic LOR request through SchooLinks!  Give the teachers 2 weeks notice prior to that college's deadline. 
    • Also, if seniors are applying via the Common App, the counselors must write a LOR. Please give them 2 weeks notice as well.
    • All seniors must fill out the brag sheet in SchooLinks to help school staff write the glowing LOR that you deserve. No transcripts will be sent until the brag sheet is completed. 

    • Transcript requests are processed through SchooLinks.  Please give counselors a 2 week window to get this step completed.

    • All families with a college-bound Senior should fill out the FAFSA in the fall. The application usually opens October 1 every year.
    • Every October, the counselors, in conjunction with either Sinclair Community College, hold a FAFSA completion night for senior students and parents. All students planning to attend college after high school need to apply for the FAFSA at fafsa.gov

  • Scholarship opportunities will be posted in SchooLinks.  Click on 'College' and then 'Scholarship Matching'.  New scholarships will be posted as we learn of them so students should check back regularly. 

    There are many scholarship tools and opportunities out there. Of course, students have a better chance of being awarded scholarships that are based locally (scholarships specific to Franklin, Middletown Community Foundation, etc - but sites such as Scholarships.com, Access Scholarships, Appily, StudentScholarships.org, etc. allow you to create one account/application and help to link you to hundreds of scholarships nationally.

    • Middletown Community Foundation Scholarships: Local scholarships in which many Franklin students are chosen to be awarded money for college. The application opens each year at 5:00 PM on December 1st. The application will close at 5:00 PM on February 1st. Just like college applications, the counselors are responsible for submitting information on the student’s behalf so DO NOT wait until February 1st to apply.  Give the counselors at least 2 weeks prior to the deadline to submit the information needed on their end. 
    • Franklin's local scholarships are posted on SchooLinks in January of each year and are due in March. Paper copies of the scholarships will also be available for pick up in the Guidance Office.
